There is a little park in North Eugene called Awbrey Park. It's near where I went to grade school and not too far from where my grandparents used to live. There is a nice playground with fun toys for kids, but I think the real fun is a bit further back. Across a small field lies a tree line, just inside those trees is a short trail system with creeks and a few bridges. There is maybe a 1/4 mile worth of trails, but for a 3-year-old it's perfect. I ask him what direction or path we should take, letting him think he is leading us.
