Little Adventure : Hikes

There is a little park in North Eugene called Awbrey Park. It's near where I went to grade school and not too far from where my grandparents used to live. There is a nice playground with fun toys for kids, but I think the real fun is a bit further back. Across a small field lies a tree line, just inside those trees is a short trail system with creeks and a few bridges. There is maybe a 1/4 mile worth of trails, but for a 3-year-old it's perfect. I ask him what direction or path we should take, letting him think he is leading us.

Sunrise over Sloan Lake

Not entirely satisfied with my last attempt of the sunrise shot of the Denver skyline, I decided to give it another chance. I also don't often head out with a specific shot in mind, so this was good practice. This was also another attempt at a vlog.

Back to Rocky Mountain National Park

We learned pretty quick that if you want to be alone or with as little people as possible in Rocky Mountain National Park, you have to get there early. By mere luck we made it to the park on the last day before daylight savings, so we got to see the latest sunrise of the season. On this particular trip, we didn't have much of a plan; we just wanted to be out here. We started off watching the sun rise at Sheep Lake. We were there all alone for most the morning minus one car that stopped by for a couple of quick snaps.

Later we moved along and made our way up Ridgeline Road. It would close soon, so we thought we would make the most of it is open. We pulled over at a random pull out and decided to start hiking. All we could see was the void over a hill that would be a valley and the promise of great views.

The scale of these mountains and this park always impressed me. How large it is and how little you can drive. I like that and hate it all the same. It's nice that there are still areas seemingly untouched only for the dedicated hikes to view, while there also being so much to see from the road.

Bad Boots and Vlogging

I'm fascinated by the potential of user-generated content. The ability to set out to make something and how achievable it is. My how website and journal is an example. No one is sponsoring me, and I'm making nothing from it, but I have the ability to set my mind to it and go. It's incredible. One area that still has me a bit perplexed is video. I enjoy working with video, but I haven't quite figured out what is right for me. A few years ago I set out to try and make my own vlog photo series. I didn't make many videos, but it was fun. I might take it up again, but who knows.
